Dear Friends and Supporters,

When I took out papers for the 72nd Assembly District nomination on the last day, when no other candidate stepped forward, I knew that I was in for an adventure.   I did not know, however, how much gratification and excitement it would bring.  It has been a wonderful experience.  I extend my thanks to all of my supporters and especially to my volunteers.  I offer my congratulations to Chris Norby on his victory.  I am grateful to my wife and partner in politics, Susan Uballe, and to Alex Jaso, who has been our "virtual son" during the past months and who has now developed the political experience that will, I am sure, lead him on to great things. We could not have done it without the brilliant strategy of Dr. Greg Diamond and Tammi McIntyre and we thank them for their steady and competent guidance.

We had the wonderful good fortune of some incredibly talented and dedicated volunteers: Nehal Shaheen, Mark Panik, Merrijo Hatfield, Rogers Johnson, Glenda Flock, Molly Muro, Rose Ann Howard, Reggie Mundekis, Glenna Mathews, Dave Earrick, Chris Fredrickson, Jamie Kim, Dot DeLeon, Ana Garcia, Michael Gandara, Susan Perlson, David Rosales, Jorge Luquin, Marti Schrank, Florice Hoffman, Monika Broome, Arthur Cortez, Erin Shawn, Frances Rios, Marlene Burnett, Karen Eddy, and Cindy Crommett. These and many other friends helped along the way.

I give my appreciation -- mixed as appropriate with congratulations and condolences -- to the many other candidates who contested this election and who I am proud to call my friends.  We fought hard for our ideals and to represent our views -- and, win or lose, that is something to be proud of. Aaruni Thakur, Beth Krom, Esiquio Uballe, Vicki Calhoun, Daren Nigsarian, Melissa Fox, Phu Nguyen, Bill Dalati and John Santoianni were some of the great Democrats it was our privilege to support and cheer on. All of them are to be thanked for fighting, and much good came of the efforts put forth.Congratulations to those who won: Jerry Brown, Barbara Boxer, Debra Bowen, John Chiang and Loretta Sanchez. And local newly elected officials Diane Singer for Orange Unified School Board, and Gary Pritchard for  CAPO School Board. I also want to congratulate Sharon Brown, Donna Miller, Barbara Dunsheath and Art Montez for winning their re-elections. And we are confident that Joe Shaw and Doug Chaffee will prevail.

As we can see, Democrats pulling together make a difference. And whether the campaigns won or not, we all met wonderful people and strengthened the ties of friendship even more.

Let's keep up the fight, we are turning Orange County Blue!!!

The 72nd District as we have known it will probably no longer exist in its present form after redistricting next year. Susan and I look forward to talking to the many friends and colleagues about what these upcoming changes will mean for our county as we act to strengthen the Democratic Party here.  Please, friends, keep in touch.

When Democrats vote, Democrats win!
